Swiss vineyards and cellars, fromagerie cheese, and excellent cuisine: Indulge in a region were the local produce is a well-kept secret. Dine on local cuisine that has its roots in the best of French and Italian traditions. The famous Swiss precision is never better than when it is applied to food and drink, and the Ormonts Valley has its fair share of chocolate makers, vignerons, and fromageries. The tour commences in Aigle, the district centre for the vineyards, and farms of the surrounding Rhone Valley. Visit the famous Aigle cloister domain, visit a local caveau or two to inspect and select some fine local wines. Nestled between the chateau and the church, wander through the historic vineyards of the district of Aigle. Some historians maintain that wine production was well underway before the arrival of the Romans in 15 BCE. Discover the wine of the cloister district of the Aigle viticulture, a closely guarded secret source of quality local wines from Canton Vaud. Fancy a chocolate, or two or three? Find an array of delights at the chocolatier. Visit the chocolate shop where you can choose from a wide selection of chocolates, truffles, pralines, elaborately decorated with delicacies.
Ascend past the vineyards to the mountain pastures where the cows graze contentedly on the sweet green alpine grasses, to sample the produce at a local fromagerie. Find a warm welcome at the La Laiterie du Petit Diable (little devil dairy) where you can find local cheeses and specialty gourmet products from a traditional fromagerie. The highlight of the day? Join us for the culinary delights of the local cuisine for a gourmet meal, and our recommendations from the cellar for a great culinary experience. After being sated with food and drink, stroll through the meadows to take in the breathtaking views before returning to Aigle.
